Finding Vegetables in Season

Chef Marian Del Mar Fairgrounds

To think about eating well starts with Finding Vegetables in Season. Have you ever eating a watermelon that has no flavor? Or maybe you’re buying organic corn and all of a sudden it’s no longer available?

That drives me really crazy especially since I love corn so much. I think it was that two years I’ve lived in New Ham I am well I had another airpshire eating white fresh corn just off the plant that made me such a fan. And over time I did a lot of experimenting with corn (as you might imagine).

I don’t know if you are anything like me, but when I get ‘going’, I don’t stop till I get it right. And by right, I mean I love, love, love what I have created.

Sometimes I call it ‘Memorable Meals’. And you can enhance whatever you cook, with incredible great tasting vegetables.

Here’s a Chefs Tip for Corn: it doesn’t matter whether you’re roasting it on the barbecue, or boiling it in water. Leave it in it’s husk. Those fibers have flavor and so does the husk. And when you go to remove it, it comes out way easier. Those fibers come right off!

Veggies Growing

I like to take it one step further. Sometimes I cut the corn in half or thirds for cobbettes. Β Easier for company to handle. Β Either I add just a little bit of coconut sugar or vegetable broth to the water, to flavor it up even more.

Sometimes I actually just cook it in broth. I do that with pasta too. Give it a go and let me know what you think.

Of course, if we are talking vegetables, we are talking Farmer’s Markets. We are in San Diego so here’s your list of Farmer’s Markets so you can plan to get it on your calendar. And now when you go, your talent will be Finding Vegetables in Season!

Here is a cheat sheet so that at a glance you can know what’s in season. Feel free to cut it and paste it on your fridge or take a snapshot of it on your phone so that you’ll have it with you when you go to the market.

And feel free to share it!

Healthier happier eating,
