Restaurant Review: Piazza 1909, on Fay in La Jolla

Roberta and Chef Marian

Piazza 1909’s owner Roberta is from Milan and her joy is bringing people together, feeding them, having them enjoy the ambiance, the wine and the music during these special summer events she creates. And although this selfie wasn’t great, you get the idea that Restaurant Review: Piazza 1909, on Fay in La Jolla…… is.

WHAT ABOUT THE FOOD, CHEF MARIAN?

To quote their website:

“We are committed to Product, Environment and Hospitality. We support the use of local fresh produce and each dish is prepared from scratch with love and passion. We believe in sustainability, not as an abstract concept but as a conscious daily choice”.

Well, there was a lot of Italian authenticity during this Sicilian feast. You know I’ve traveled the globe and cooked in kitchens, took classes in both food and wine pairing and ate Michelin Star Food. And you know I’ve got a pretty good palate, right?

YES CHEF!

Well my friend, these parties at Piazza 1909 are worth going to! And so is their restaurant! Take a look a some of the simple creations that were amazing flavor profiles.

After toasting with sparkling wine poured at no additional charge, the food began to arrive. Have a look:

Prosciutto and Melon

You’ve got Prosciutto and Melon and Pasta with bits of veal and beautiful fresh spices and cheese. I apologize in advance, if I missed anyone in the kitchen or spelled a name wrong. Chefs Accursio, along with Stefano and Francesca and Mario worked their tails off preparing  different stations that included many, many plates of starters and appetizers, pasta dishes, meat dishes, rolled swordfish and more – with final bites of Dolce – dessert (delicious pistachio gelato). For $45 per person, this was certainly a labor of love.

Each table received plates and plates of food. Family Style. Nothing better than that. And there were beautiful wines for purchase, or you could buy their suggested pairings by the glass.

Whoosh!  Their most delicious pasta  went down on a table in the middle of the room – a show in itself.

There was both Italian and Latin music and of course, lots of dancing. I actually enjoyed some West Coast Swing with a gentleman from the next table. FUN!

One more thing: you can sit with a table of people you don’t know, or bring a bunch of people you really want to hang with. Tables of 4, 6, 8 and even up to 12 were available that night, outside under the stars. And while I shot a picture of the menu, I must admit that was the only picture that didn’t come out right.

You’ll have to take this blog with you and show pictures to know exactly what you order, for a casual meal. If these items were special and not on the menu, I am absolutely sure if you show them a dish, they will bring out something equally delicious, with a similar flavor profile. They do promote these events along with their menu. Here’s their Website.

Go have a visit and say that Chef Marian sent ya!
