Popped Sorghum and Quenching Your Thirst. That’s what I’m talking about today because if you’re eating something that’s salty you also need to know what to drink right? What is Sorghum anyway? It’s an Ancient Grain. According to Healthline it’s an ancient grain with tons of benefits.
So… I’ve been looking for healthier choices and snacks, with benefits, lately.
And that’s how I came across Popped Sorghum. They claim to be better than popcorn. This particular one was called rosemary and garlic. It says it’s got prebiotic fiber, it’s lectin free, vegan and gluten-free and I say to myself “this is an interesting snack, especially with the rosemary and garlic”. You try it. You be the judge. I can see where this will be a plus in my life, although it’s saltier than I would like.
By the way, when a restaurant heavily salts their appetizers? It’s because they’re wanting you to drink more. The profit is in the alcohol, not the food! Here’s another Chef Tip: if you find yourself drinking a red wine and it’s very tannic it burns when it’s going down, pair it with Popped Sorghum. The salt will balance the tannic acid and all of a sudden you’ll find that it’s a very drinkable red wine. The glassware you use can also make a big difference. But that’s a story for another day.
Speaking of needing to quench your thirst…… Lately I’ve been drinking Italian sparkling water that I get at Costco. Unlike club soda which has sugar in it, this is just plain, nothing added. I find myself taking fruit juice and adding a little sparkle to it, instead of Prosecco. Although I must admit Prosecco is way more fun. But during the day when I really not looking to imbibe, this one is a close second in terms of quenching your thirst. During the summer months I hope you’ll remember that you need to drink a lot of water. The amazing thing about water outside of quenching your thirst is it will actually help you lose weight. Can you imagine that?

And don’t forget the authentic green tea in the short green bottles from Costco. Green tea is nice chilled. You can add ice and lemon, or even some of that sparkling Italian water we talked about earlier, that’s good too. Live a little!
What do we worry about in the summertime…….? Maybe it’s just me, but here’s what goes through my head: “Do we wear suntan lotion? Don’t wear suntan lotion”? I’ve been doing a relatively safe thing. No suntan lotion but no more than 20 minutes in the sun.
And the lady that does acupuncture for me told me it’s great to stick your feet in the sand or walk on the grass. Connecting to the Earth can actually help balance you and that includes emotions. So think about that the next time you wanna go for a walk. Probably better to take a walk in a park or on the beach. Actually make sure it’s not a dog park.
Hey! If you need someone who is really ‘in tune’ with your body, can feel what’s goes on inside and apply acupuncture to open up the right channels and ease any pain you might have, reach out. I will connect you! I’ve been using Jackie for years and I will say ‘it’s life changing’.
Happy Healthier Eating!
