As we’ve all been going through, just when you think it’s safe to use certain oils studies come out that it’s not. So I think it’s time for me to update you on what I have learned.
These days we’re talking about misleading claims, and class action lawsuits. More about whether or not people are getting what the label says they are. There was a groundbreaking, UC Davis study analyzing commercial avocado oil and they found out that up to 82% of commercial avocado oils were either still rancid or adulterated with cheaper oils like soybean, sunflower, and sunflower oil before reaching the shelves.
My devastating moment was when I found out that the companies I trust are no longer really

trustworthy. When I heard that Kraft took over Primal Kitchen I was skeptical.
So in case you haven’t heard: Class action lawsuit against them about false advertising product purity, and clean labeling claims. We are talking about sauces and dressings here that claim healthier Avocado Oils and actually are not using pure Avocado Oil. Instead, they are blending it with seed oils, according to all studies and reports.
It is devastating to me that Boulder Canyon advertises they use avocado oil when they also

put in oils that our body can’t process and blend them. And I am a little thrown by the fact that Thrive, which is advertised and partnered with Bobby Parrish who certainly knows better, sells them online with their membership.
I have to quote a Neil Young song: My life has changed in so many ways. I don’t know who to trust anymore.
What has the right oils, Chef?
Boulder Canyon, the same company doing it wrong, is also doing it right. They are using olive oil in their kettle cooked potato chips. Happy to report that Graza and Jackson’s kettle chips are using olive oil. And happy to know Siete offers grain free chips with olive oil.
Trader Joe’s frequently stocks store brand Spanish potato chips cooked an extra-virgin olive oil. Lesser evil, Skinny Pop and boom Chickaboom also has popcorn with olive oil.
I have to tell you I’m still a little confused. You can’t cook on a high heat with olive oil. Grazi claims you can with their olive oil without turning it carcinogenic and can give you cancer. But I’m actually waiting for the other shoe to drop on that one.
Will keep you posted!
