New Products on the Market

Umami Blend

I was at Jimbo’s this past week. And I noticed that there are new Products on the Market I have not seen before. This actually started for me two months ago when I was at Sprouts. I saw an ‘Umami Blends’ in the Spice isle. Turns out it is mostly garlic and herbs but the first two ingredients are mushrooms and sesame seeds. And yes! It’s another way to flavor food, given to you, all in one container to sprinkle out.

So here’s what I found this week:

Vegetable Umami

Vegetable Umami from Yondu. Here’s what they say about the ingredients:

Natural umami from slowly fermenting and simmering vegetables gives delicate flavor and balance to your dishes. It’s basically fermented soybeans with a mix of organic simmered vegetables. On the label it looks like the veggies they use are leeks, carrots, garlic and mushrooms. Nothing bad about these ingredients, unless you are allergic to soy or anything fermented.

Churn

Here’s another product I like: Churn. Flavored Grass Fed Butter. And again, this is only if you are eating real butter. Into the butter they put roasted garlic, garlic, shallots, balsamic vinegar, lemon juice, sea salt, Italian parsley and black pepper. I tell you these ingredients just in case you don’t have this in your store you can easily make it.

I’ve noticed that this past year and last, people are drinking LaCroix Water. The word ‘essence’ came up on their label and I just want to know what that means…

The Wall Street Journal has this to say: “Essence is actually a clear, concentrated natural chemical that’s been used for decades in products as varied as gravy, ice pops, coffee, shampoo and even insecticide, according to industry executives and scientists.”

Now I still don’t know what a natural chemical is: There’s a government white paper that describes it this way: Fruits and vegetables (garlic, pepper, onion, cabbage, and guava), seeds and leaves (olive leaves, parsley, caraway, nutmeg, fennel, and grape seeds), and herbs and spices (marjoram, basil, oregano, rosemary, thyme, sage, clove, and cardamom) all include natural plant-derived chemicals. So I guess they’re not talking about things made in a lab, so I’m ok about that.

There’s one last thing I want to share with you. You must read your labels. Whether it’s LaCroix Water, Club Soda or anything sparkling. Please make sure it’s just water and bubbles. FYI: Club Soda has sugar. And the more sugar you eat, the more you need. It’s hard to get off sugar. Many condiments like ketchup have sugar. Salad dressings too! But maybe you should save yourself for a one time binge for a hot fudge sundae and be more particular about the sugar you consume! Hey! You do you! I’m just filling in the cracks of your information!

Happy Healthier Eating!
