Is Maple Syrup that different from Pancake Syrup?

Do we know the difference between pancake syrup and Maple Syrup?

Geez, after all this time, I hope so. All those brand named Pancake Syrups have High Fructose Corn Syrup. And while there are differing opinions – with some saying studies show High Fructose makes people obese, we  have to recognize other people saying “a sugar is a sugar is a sugar”. (Meaning that whether it’s raw, cane or high fructose, it’s all the same).

So, what to do?

Stop eating? Stop living? Live in F E A R that tomorrow, they’ll come out with a new thing saying high fructose gives you cancer ?

Well, not me baby. I’m going to make my mind up before they unload all kinds of new info…. and NOT EAT THINGS that cause inflamation in my system………. that would be…… SUGAR? Yep. As little sugar as is humanly possible. Of course, I’m not a saint. So sometimes I have ‘that kind of day’ and find myself at a Baskin Robbins…. chocolate chip mint…. children’s size, with a little brownie and hot fudge sauce… mmmmm. But it’s a childs’ portion I tell you. And I only do it twice a year…. lol

Ok. That’s enough about ME. Guess I just want you to know I’m human – not a blogger from another country that is blogging for 500 blogs a week. ha! Does that stuff happen? Yeeaah.

Back to Syrup…. I use Maple Syrup…. and Maple Sugar. Natural. And what’s the potential problem with that?

Well, people don’t know that Maple Syrup doesn’t have all those chemicals and other ‘stuff’ so…. you CAN’T leave it on the counter like butter! If you do, it will GROW MOLD. Now, the manufacturers assure me that if that happens I simply scrape the mold off and re-boil it and then it’s usable again. But would you want to use anything (outside of cheese) that has grown moldy?

Not me. So that’s the ‘dirt’ on Maple Syrup, Mold and the other ‘stuff’ they call Pancake Syrup. If you want more info about anything and want to know what I think? Email me! mm@chefmarian.com.

  1. Thanks for asking. This is a common question that people don’t know the answer to. Maple syrup comes from a tree. It’s natural… not messed with. Pancake syrup has all kinds of things added, things you actually don’t need… like more sugar! Just read your labels for the details! And thanks for the question!
