I think it’s time to talk about snacks. You can eat Cheetos, or you can find Annies, Barbara’s, and Jake’s puffed and lightening bolt puffed cheese snack to feed your kids (or yourself, if you’re not plant based).
And as luck would have it, I wrote and posted this on Sunday and today, Monday I wake up to CBS This Morning and watch them talking about a bear sticking his face into a big jug of cheesy puffs and the family in Wisconsin on a fishing trip actually pulling the jug off his face, swimming near their boat, with Gail King saying: “everybody loves cheesy puffs”.
So fun! But the bottom line is, if your kids are not vegan (I have one who is and one who isn’t) they just want to munch.
So… why not give them healthier choices and package them properly?
Whether it’s you, in the late night hours or the kids all day every day, they can eat out of the bag and finish the bag or you can portion it all and make it even tastier. In order to accomplish this, I did a little testing. We ordered the following snacks:
Annies, Barbara’s and Lukes – All organic, all done with great oils and even though it’s still a snack, by mixing and matching better choices, and limiting the amount they eat without reckon, you can still make it satisfying without over doing it.
We can still add Barbara’s and Luke’s Lightning Bolts to the mix, to pump it up a notch!
And still, we all know it’s not something you want them to consume daily, not something you would want to eat daily, but something that can be eaten in proportion and can satisfy cravings and not make them feel salted out. Not make you or the kids have an awful after taste or make it hard for to satisfy that craving without doing real harm to your inner workings.
If you or the kids are craving a cheesy flavor, these are just options. In the plant based world both myself and one of my adult kids way prefer to avoid milk or cheese items. But when I prepare this for others in my household here’s what I do:
Yes.
It’s mixed bags of very interesting and contrasting Cheddar Puffs all done intentionally, all done mindfully, all done organically. And while it’s very easy to criticize, it is way easier to come up with great solutions that satisfy cravings. Now, I will say that we can probably come up with more interesting snacks that cause less harm. Like for example: I will take a plant based sour cream and mix it with dried onions, or some kind of dried onion mix to make a dip. Then I can present chips and dips which seems to do the trick around my household as well.
But I think the most important thing to remember is that snacks are treats. It’s a once in a while creation.
One more thing I found to be personally very satisfying…. and that’s Choloes Pops. Fruit, juice and a touch of Cane Sugar and you feel like you are eating a slightly altered popsicle. It’s both a crowd pleaser and a way to get your dark chocolate without blowing your calories for the day. And yes, it is totally plant based. What a bonus!
You can find them at Jimbo’s!
