Eat the Rainbow. There’s more to it!

Eat the Rainbow
Eat the Rainbow

We’ve all heard this saying: Eat the Rainbow. It basically means ‘eat all different colors of fruits and vegetables’.

But it wasn’t until my good friend and business associate Linda Anne Kahn, a member of the International Federation of Aromatherapists (IFA), CIDESCO International, North American Vodder Lymphatic Therapists (NAVALT), National American Holistic Aromatherapists (NAHA) and is past Vice President of NAVALT told me more about eating color, that I realized there is way more to it beyond the idea of eating your fruits and veggies.

Linda-Anne by the way is the founder of Beauty Kliniek in the La Jolla area and a world reknown speaker on Lymphedema. She came back from a conference and shared this concept and I said “Ooooh, oooooh, let me write this down for a blog”! lol

By the way, did you know when you read this blog you join 30,000 other readers? I was amazed to see my analytics recently and I’m pretty thrilled. Now if I can only get you to share these… lol. Yes! Let’s help Chef Marian – “The Blog”, go viral! Tweet and re-tweet.

TELL US ABOUT THE FOOD, CHEF!

Ok. Ok. I always get back to the food… you know that.

First let’s talk about the colors and why.

Red. What’s Red?

TOMATOES, CHEF? AND RED PEPPERS?

Yes that’s right. And what else?

How about your heart? So eating vegetables and fruits that are red are ‘heart healthy’.

HOW ABOUT GREEN CHEF?

Well, I guess green smoothies with Kale and Spinach gave that one away. Green is all about cleansing.

Yellow is all about digestion. So that’s bananas, lemons, yellow squash. It makes sense. When the kids were small if their stomach’s were acting up, I’d give them a half a banana. Lemons? Everyone knows they are alkaline. And if you do like ‘grandma’ did and drink hot water and lemon in the morning, it makes you ‘regular’. No really! It does! lol

But the most interesting thing Linda Anne talked about was the color or absence of color: Black.

She says it affects your ‘jing’ which is your energy from the universe that is stored in the kidneys.

Wiki says: “According to (Chinese) tradition, Jīng is stored in the kidneys and is the most dense physical matter within the body. It is said to be the material basis for the physical body and nourishes, fuels, and cools the body”.

So Shaga Mushrooms, Black Sesame Seeds, Black Rice and Blackberries. Everything Black will boost your ‘jing’.

So let’s get ‘jingy’ with it! lol And a special thanks to Linda-Anne for sharing such valuable information!

Happy Eating,
