Locally Sourced Top Quality Produce at San Diego Restaurants

Locally Sourced? The Plot grows their own veggies!

Everywhere we look these days, we are finding restaurants and even food brands using locally sourced ingredients within 50 miles or less to promote sustainability and fresher flavors. There are urban farms popping up in your neighborhood and rooftop garden is gaining popularity.

Today I thought I dig into which restaurants are using locally grown ingredients.

The Plot and Wrench & Rodent grows their own and more!

I guess the first two restaurants that come to mind are a husband and

Locally Sourced and absolutely delicious at Wrench & Rodent

wife team and their restaurants could not be more different. Jessica opened The Plot in Oceanside (and now in Costa Mesa) and the other is Davin at Wrench & Rodent Seabasstropub, just a block away. The Plot offers strictly Vegan (but you wouldn’t know it, unless someone told you because the flavor profiles are so delicious!)

And Davin creates miracles with dried aged fish and menu items like seared black cod with black cod liver poached in wagu beef fat making an appearance. But always check because both menus are ever evolving, depending on what’s in season.

Here’s what they have in common. Not only are they using ingredients they grow themselves but they are also known for using every bit of every ingredient. It’s a zero waste initiative. Very creative and delicious! Waste not, want not!

Spread is Locally Sourced.

Spread, in North Park focuses on a plan based cuisine with her again it locally grown ingredients source by nearby farmers market’s. They feature where fruits, edible flowers and unique vegetables. Sustainability is the name of their game

The Red Door is locally sourced

You can’t get more locally sourced than The Red Door.

The Red Door in Mission Hills is known for using produce Trevor the owners Mount helix farm. They are supplementing with Be Wise Ranch and Stehly Farms. As executive chef for a Thanksgiving meal at Kitchens for Good, Be Wise Ranch gave me enough vegetables to orchestrate a menu and feed 150 people.

The Red Door offers organic sustainable and ethically sourced seasonal dishes like pumpkin beet salads and garden raviolis.

The Chef at Kitchen grows his own too!

Kitchen in Bay Park is doing more than their part too. Chef Kurt Metzger uses ingredients from an on-site garden and local farms for a fusion of Italian, Mexican in French cuisine. He’s known for dishes like stay cash with wild mushrooms and garden fresh linguini.

Locally Sourced at Ambrogio 15

Ambrogio 15 is locally sourced using biodynamic produce.

Ambrogi0 15 Del Mar in the sky deck mall is featuring sustainable organic ingredients for their modern Italian cuisine. They emphasize local and biodynamic produce paired with their award winning wine. In picking Biodynamic produce, they follow a holistic, ecologically sensitive and ethical approach to farming and food production. This is the place you get your New York thin crust pizza. And their pasta is pretty good to0. The owner has several locations including Pacific Beach.

San Diego Foodies and Carlsbad Foodies are in for a treat! In September the owner and I will be creating a special event to be posted soon!

You’ll have another six restaurants that follow this trend in my next blog.

Save time, save money, eat healthier!
