Review of Reader Feast, San Diego

My friend Alex and I traveled to the Broadway Pier to experience the Reader Feast. Yes! It was muggy. Yes! It was hot! But guess what? 80% of the vendors were inside (open to the outside) with beautiful, beautiful air conditioning! And when I went to the pier area, I was able to snag a table with an umbrella. You can’t beat that!

Just like we do over and over again, I raffled off two tickets to members of San Diego Foodies and Euro Lovers and Friends and got to see many of the members at this event! We’ve grown to over 2,000 members, this past year. And if you’re reading this and hopefully passing it on through your social media?

YES CHEF. I DO THAT.

Great! Well you are joining more than 30,000 readers of this blog. So thanks!

WHAT ABOUT THE FOOD CHEF?

Yes, yes. I know. We’re coming to that.

There was seafood (ceviche tacos, shrimp tacos, etc), meats, salads, desserts, fruit of all kinds. Generous ‘tastings’ for sure! And a photo booth that auto posted to Facebook! We’re certainly in today’s world!

The Pulled Pork Sandwich I ate was great! Especially when you hardly eat meat of any kind. In order to eat something like that, it absolutely has to have the right flavor profile!

You can see them hiding behind the raspberry cider. And no! They weren’t BOTH mine! lol

I even ate a Donut. Normally I steer away from sugar and fat, but someone I was sitting with asked if I tried the donuts and it was a Saturday in the month of September (any excuse will do) so…

Moist and chewy inside. Great chocolate topping. Well worth the calories!

We sat outside under an umbrella for a good part of the time and listened to music. I was blown away by a ’30 something’ with a guitar, who sang Michael Jacksons “Thriller” but acoustically. Very creative. So picture this: you are sipping cider, tasting beer and wine along with food and overlooking the bay….

Nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon? You bet!

But I think my favorite part of the experience was meeting the vendor Kill Devil Spirit Company and the Founder and Distiller, Ray Dilgio.

Aahh yes. His ‘spirits’ certainly do kill the devil in you! Makes you easier to get along with! lol

He was very responsible about his tasting size, which I liked. Nice to be able to do a tasting so that next time I go to buy I know what I like. And that’s what a tasting is all about!

800-1,000 people filled the event. I was surprised to see this good a turnout in unusual heat and humidity.

All’s well that ends well!

Remember Reader Feast for next year! And don’t forget to join one of my groups, to see all our events, including “The Chef Marian Cooking Club” Events. Our season is just starting! So log on!

Happy Eating,
