We were proud last night to be joining forces with the Interfaith Shelter Network for their 5th Annual Sips for Shelter event. We love this event for two reasons 1. It benefits homeless victims of domestic violence and their families and 2. UNLIMITED wine tasting!
Featuring wines from the USA and around the world, light appetizers, a wine raffle, and a silent auction – this was a pretty good event with lots of fun people to hang out with on a Saturday Night.
Obsure Reds included: Teroldego, Tannat, Pinot Meunier: Whites: Furmint, Torrontes, and Rkatsiteli.
I found the wines at the table outside (with food) to have the best wines. And there was no additional fee for that!
My favorite table ——-> had some crazy wines from places like Georgia and Long Island… and being a long island girl I do get that cities there have been growing grapes for decades. So, I gave it a try! The only thing hard on me the entire night were the wines that had no body, no nose, no finish…. no nothin’! Those were a quick sip, spit and move on!
We also enjoyed some bottles of red wines in the $50 – $150 price range from Lewis Cellars, Pride Mountain, Buty, La Rusticana D’Orsa I believe at Wine Tasting Expert Brad Bruce’s table. Nice donation Brad!
ALL proceeds benefited El Nido, a transitional housing program for homeless, abused women and children.
And at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about.
Meeting up with old friends, meeting new friends…. sipping wine, munching on appetizers and desserts…. and spending a Saturday Night Out for a good cause!
Hey… I can think of many Saturday Nights spent home, organizing… lol
Last night certainly beat that!
There was a 3 piece band … really ‘old school’ background music. And the guy in the picture to my right? ————->
IS THAT ONE OF THE MUSICIANS CHEF MARIAN?
Ikr…. Nooo… this is the ar teest… a gentleman that took a blank canvas and turned it into a masterpiece. He was saying that when he first started sketching, people were coming up, finding it to be ‘sketchy’ and not at all impressed. But by the time he finished it, the bids were on! As someone who paints on canvas, I was pretty impressed!
What a great idea for a fundrasier! And great that the funds went to a good cause!
Speaking of good causes, reminds me of the event last month at The Heritage Museum. That was as family event…. since my kids are grown and gone, it caught my eye only when they invited me to be one of their judges. And actually, at the end of the day, we judged some interesting and sometimes good food, we had Deb in the back corner bbqing hot dogs that went as fast as she could make ’em, and the families had a wonderful day that included a petting zoo, a cake walk, some great samples and desserts for sale all benefiting the Heritage Museum in Encinitas.
By the way, I hear they have an event coming up in May. They’re celebrating Beef! And I think I’ve gotta help with some vegetable dishes! lol
Get our bodies from acid (meat) back to alkaline (veggies) all at the same event! Now the only challenge will be to convince people to eat their veggies after their meat! (I’d better bring a bat)! lol
I’ll keep you posted!
Happy Eating,
Chef Marian
