Hemp Oil, drinking from the carton, curing that cough… Healthy tips from Chef Marian

Hemp Seed Oil, or Hemp Oil is something I was talking about in my last blog.

One of the things I love about blogging is I get to do all kinds of research. And when I find something out? I get to share it with you. Hemp Oil is one of them. Cook with it? Don’t cook with it. (Thanks to wiki for the pic).

This, by the way is Hemp Oil, not hash oil. No THC. No buzz.

So, we wonder…. What’s good about it?

YES CHEF! TELL ME!

Well, let’s start with the good nutty flavor. That’s really what appeals to me. Plus it’s low in saturated fat, and contains essential fatty acids, omega 3 and 6. Heart healthy. Some people use it to cure eczema. lol

But like olive oil? It doesn’t have a high burning point. Ya know how some things lose their medicinal properties when heated on high? This is one of those. And so, if you must cook with it? Don’t fry with it. Maybe try it in something on a medium heat for a short period of time.

And many people are using it on their faces to look younger. With all the fancy things out there to put on your face? Why not go natural? The same thing for Rose hips oil. Tested for a gazillion years…. and it works!

Onto another simple question: Why did mom always say ‘Don’t drink out of the carton’? And maybe now that you’re on your own, you do it …. just because you can?

Do you get how much bacteria is in your mouth?

I HADN’T THOUGHT OF THAT CHEF!

Yep. And so when you double dip… even the same spoon into the peanut butter again? You’re adding bacteria. So longer shelf life wanted? Take a portion of whatever you eat or drink into a separate plate or glass. Makes sense?

MAKES SENSE CHEF!

The very last thing I want to talk to you about today is feeling clogged or coughing due to the flu or a cold. Just a ‘heads up’. There are so many choices out there today to ease you thru it that don’t include what you buy in a grocery store or at a pharmacy. There’s tinctures for under your tongue that  ease the cold and cough symptoms. There’s natural cough drops. (And I want to tell you, that after enough ricola (or however you spell it) or some of the other ‘off the shelf’ cough drops, you’ll be ready to try something natural that doesn’t interfere with your taste buds)!

A parenthesis inside a parenthesis? What was I thinking…? lol

And then there’s teas. It seems like everyone for centuries has known about the medicinal benefits of certain herb teas.

Time to explore all your options. I promise! You’ll find something right for you!

Happy Eating,

Chef Marian
