Happy Labor Day to you!
A day off. The end of summer, the beginning of fall. And a really ‘feasting’ day for us all!
I would say if you would like to take the day to get drunk and do some mindless eating, go ahead! Feast!
But if you’re like me? You’ll use it as a quieter day, to reflect and eat well.
Wanna know what Labor Days’ roots are?
YES CHEF!
Well, according to the TechTimes:
This is a United States federal holiday that takes place on the first Monday in September every year. In 2014, the holiday falls on Sept. 1. It’s a day dedicated to celebrating the efforts of workers, past and present, that have helped provide the social, political and economic backbone of this country.
Alright. Alright. Alright. Then I would say this is a day for debate! To talk about what’s going on right now with minimum wage, to talk about business, integrity (although I don’t know if you can use both those words in the same sentence) and judge where we are as a country.
REALLY CHEF?
Nah. I don’t believe any of that. Here’s what I believe: It’s a good day to just take the day off. Really off. Don’t turn on your cell phone. Don’t open your computer. And don’t answer the door unless and if you are expecting company. Don’t deal with anything! Find a fun project you’ve been meaning to get to, and have a little ‘me’ time.
Of course, if you have a life, all of this quickly goes out the window. This one wants this from you, that one wants that. So many people to please. So little time.
Ok. Here’s your ‘take away’. I know how you feel. I know those feelings can get stuffed down with food, washed away with alcohol. But this year? Just for a change? Don’t do it.
Put parameters around Monday. Carve out one day for yourself. Or at least 2 hours of that one day. And do …. whatever!
Namaste.
Happy Eating,
Chef Marian
