Many grocery stores are changing what they buy, downsizing their stores, checking out their carbon footprint and making much needed changes. That’s according to Sheila Ongie, the sustainability manager of the National Co+op Grocers (NCG). So, they’re looking to change what they do in this world, reducing food waste and looking into the climate polluters related to refridgeration.
I am also going to fill you in on how the grocery stores are in transition. Without authorities inteferring or groups rising up to demand change, many of the stores I have read about are not only carrying more organic goods, or only organic goods, but they are also looking at how their practices affect the earth.
More Grocery News: Squire, CFO, Good Earth Natural Foods says that ‘building time’ is the right time to consider climate issues. He also is acutely aware that growing organically and buying organically is a huge solution to our climate problems, probably considering the whole in the ozone that cows continue to make. But even just looking at chemically sprayed vs. organic veggies, it diverts over 10,000 pounds of carbon. He is also headed in the direction of avoiding plastic totally.
Many grocers are now using re-usable bags only and encouraging you to buy their cloth bags instead. Some are going solar in their new buildings. According to what I am reading, some markets are giving more women owned companies a chance to get on the shelf.
Many companies like Vega, Reveri and Bolthouse Farms coming up with new plant based products. Bravo!
I also noticed this year that Bone Suckin’ Sauce has come up with new sauces and new rubs, some especially for veggies. Very exciting.
I can’t tell you how far back I go with this product blending their Bone Suckin’ Sauce with other ingredients to make my signature BBQ Sauce. And I couldn’t do it without this brand. Truly! So I am going to recommend first their Bone Suckin’ Sauce and/or their hot version, if you prefer the heat. Second, I most heartedly recommend their rubs. If you are vegan or just going Meatless Monday on the world, their rubs have zero calories and a whole lot of flavor.
Probably on the shelves now, and if not? Ask your store to get them in!
