Although my flu’s gone, the cough lingers. And I know garlic may be part of the cure. But like most of us, I had forgotten its’ many benefits.
Well last night I played chess with a couple of people and this girl Barbara reminded me…. the cough could be bacterial. And garlic kills bacteria.
RIGHT CHEF?
Right! And with Obama’s great new health care program, it would cost me 60 bucks for an office visit. So I’m going to try everything else first!
I’m always talking about food being my medicine? Let’s put it to the test.
Last night, when I came home I took a whole grain cracker and topped it with roasted tomato, garlic and basil. I added olive oil when it came out, to activate the lycopene in the tomato. I didn’t cough at all last night.
And again this morning? Same thing for breakfast.
Well we know about the garlic. How ’bout the benefits of Basil?
Basil stops the growth of bacteria. Garlic, Basil? Let’s get that bacteria from two directions! And it’s got Vitamin A for heart health. Can’t lose on that one! lol
I’m following that up with a tea I created: a combination of Dandelion Tea, that should reduce inflammation and a Bronchial Wellness Tea…. (even though I don’t think the cough is in my lungs). I think it’s a post nasal drip. But then again…. I’m no doctor.
One of the things I do know is: If I eat carefully and smaller portions I give my body a chance to heal. If it’s not busy processing food, it will have energy to work on my problem. And I’ll boost my system with probiotics and elderberry syrup!
That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it! lol
Lot’s of warm liquids. Lots of soup. Now adding my tomato garlic basil treat….. and hopefully within a couple of days, I’ll kick the cough.
If not? 60 bucks out the window to a doctors’ office.
Shoot.
Happy Eating,
Chef Marian
