If I said (outside of last night), I haven’t seen Chef Bernard from the Marine Room, La Jolla since the days his english was so flavored with the sound of France that it made it hard to fully understand him, would that be amazing?
That he has become quite the ‘on air’ personality, still keeping his personable and likable self available to any and all who approach him, (and I remember him from the days when he was a little nervous on stage or in front of a camera), would that be a ‘tell’ for how long I know him? lol
Well, I am happy to report that at last nights’ Cinema Society Event, I had the opportunity to again make friends with a chef I have always admired: Chef Bernard.
And I will say, it was like a breath of fresh air to hear that he has traveled worldwide extensively, (just like me), tasting in farmer’s markets, eating at Michelin Star Restaurants, and experiencing the food of many countries. Also like me, he is dedicated to sustainable eating, cooking and serving. I suggested that perhaps we join forces on some of the Wellness Events I am creating that will be coming up this year? And he was agreeable to more conversation about it!
I will say there is a big difference between a Chef who is ‘working it’ and a Chef that is a food consultant to restaurants, an author, speaker and teacher. I think I have the easier job! lol
It is because he adds new things to his menu every month (keeping some of the favorites that customers won’t let him take off the menu) and that he buys locally that makes me volunteer to tell you that if you have not been to The Marine Room in a while, you at least try them for Happy Hour Sunday through Friday. High quality for $10 a plate? Brilliant! Just brilliant!
Keep watching the calendar. I will be scheduling a meetup at his place on San Diego Foodies in the next month or so!
Happy Eating,
Chef Marian
