Breakfast…. everyone tells you it’s the most important meal of the day. But how do you do it and still stay healthy? Best time of the day to eat carbs…. but how much carbs? How much protein?
What I like to do is make healthy substitutions. Feed yourself Canadian Bacon or especially Prosciutto works fine if you remove all the fat from the edges. Yes I know. You are supposed to eat Prosciutto uncooked. But I find when I do a light saute, it makes a fine substitute for that bacon flavor.
Then take that flavored pan and cook your egg in that deliciousness. Add a little bit of grapeseed oil, if you need it. Take 1 thin cut of one potato as shown, and saute that in the same pan too. Sometimes I also throw in onions. Nothin’ smells better than onions cooking! Since we’re eating with all our senses and seducing ourselves into food…. that gets my vote! And finally, take a piece of bread cut it in half and have a delicious half sandwich for breakfast. Eat slowly……YUM!
YES THAT’S YUM CHEF!
Why thank you! And easy to make too! Just remember to leave the exposed part of the potato soaking in water, so it’s good for tomorrow too!
Another thing you can do is read ingredients. Some of us like morning smoothies. And some put protein powder in their smoothies. Again, make sure that powder isn’t loaded with things that start your day off wrong… like sugar. And see if you can add avocado, kale, carrot etc. to that juice, so it won’t put your blood sugar through the roof! lol
If there’s one thing I know to be true it’s that – like it or not? You need breakfast.
Remember that a bagel is equivalent to eating 4 breads, so thin cut it into 4 pieces and only toast 2. Use that as a rule you use when preparing food. Try to downsize wherever you can because after three to five bites, you’ve usually had enough to fill yourself. Just wait 20 minutes and check it out. Maybe not filled and needing to push away from the table, but at least no longer hungry! And that’s the goal my friend! Your measuring stick. Eat till you’re no longer hungry.
And if you really don’t like or won’t eat breakfast? Grab a handful of nuts and maybe eat a piece of fruit and you’re good to go!
Happy Eating,
Chef Marian
