I will not eat sugar, I will not eat sugar, I will not eat sugar…..

A Bounty of Flavor
A Bounty of Flavor

I will not eat sugar. I will not eat sugar.

Yeah.

Right.

I don’t know what’s happening to me this holiday. It’s like people just put peanut brittle in front of my nose and in a minute or two, I’m eating it!

Three bite rule? Out the window.

And I finally figured it out today. I’ve been putting me last again. I have to run and go there, fix that here, meet someone to do that, and I’m just grabbing food wherever I can.

Sound familiar?

This is the absolute reason I cook and am into nutrition. I tell you what to do, to remind myself of what I need to do.

And here’s the thing: When I am adding a half a plate of veggies to every meal I eat? When I eat an apple as my snack and carry carrots to munch on? I do not crave sugar. I do not need to suck down a couple of glasses of wine. I can have one glass and be content. Or better yet? Because wine = sugar? No wine at all!

It’s that mindful eating thing again!

I mean, you know what egg nog tastes like, right?

YES CHEF!

And a couple of sips would satisfy that craving, if you are craving, right?

YES CHEF!

So let’s get back on course. Let’s see sugar for what it truly is…. the creator of inflammation in your body. And let’s eat a fruit or veggie after sugar, to get our bodies back to alkaline. Deal?

THAT’S A DEAL CHEF!

I want you to get selfish. I had a bunch of events I had to create this month. And now that I’ve accomplished those tasks? It’s me time! I want you to carve out some me time every day.

I know. There’s still xmas eve and xmas day…  but let’s make our lists, and organize ourselves to take the stress out of this season.

One of the things I have been doing this week here and there is cleaning up my email files. Do you have thousands of unread emails? lol Well, in my case these are only emails from people who want to sell me something. So that will be a relatively easy fix. Junk. Junk. Delete. Junk.

But you have to go through them, for the ‘what if’ factor. What if I think it’s something it’s not… and I need to respond?

If nothing else? Today I have reminded you (and me too) to put yourself first. Every single day, every single meal, plan it out …. and even when you’re out? Make veggies a big part of your choice. Just add it. A salad for lunch? Two sides of veggies with dinner? As long as they’re not soaking in butter, it will help steer you away from eating bad, and gaining the 10 pounds we all gain every holiday.

It’s not too late. Start Now!

Happy Eating,

Chef Marian
