Water or waaahter? By Chef Marian

Water.....?
Water…..?

I don’t know why but I just don’t like feeling pressured to drink water. Wahhh!

STOP BEING A BABY CHEF MARIAN.

Ok. I’ll stop. But I say this to let you know I’ve found a trick. If I drink 2 glasses before each meal, it fills me… plus I’ve taken care of 6 of the 8 glass minimum I’m supposed to drink each day. Cool?

THAT’S COOL CHEF.

So now I’ve got the issue of water to contend with.

Is all water the same? Drinking tap, bottled? PH balanced? Distilled?

Well, I’ve been researching and actually do drink PH Balanced water (but not from a machine that costs thousands). I do that because I believe in keeping my body Alkaline to ward off disease (disease can’t grow in an alkaline environment). And I feel better hydrated. Recently someone told me that distilled is the best way. Boiled and re-captured. So I’ve added that daily just to see if that has any effect.

But we don’t just drink water. We shower with it too. Most of us don’t have filters on our shower heads. Right?

RIGHT CHEF MARIAN!

And what about the chlorine and fluoride in water? Ever considered that?

NO CHEF MARIAN!

Well, listen…….I was at my daughters the other day and we were watching a video about showering. And that video did a test. They used a tester to see how much chlorine and fluoride was in a glass of water. Then someone stuck his hand in for about 5 seconds. They tested it again. No chlorine. No Fluoride.

Heeeelllooooo! I don’t mean to scare you, but according to this, every time you shower, your system is soaking in Chlorine and Fluoride.

The Naked Scientist gives us this background:

“For over 100 years, science and medicine have understood the poisonous nature of fluoride. In the 1930’s and 40’s, giant US companies, e.g. ALCOA, were sued for millions of dollars due to toxic fluoride waste escaping from factory smokestacks killing crops and livestock. ALCOA’s owners (Mellon) figured that if people could be persuaded fluoride isn’t poisonous but is good for teeth, profits could be protected. So, to introduce water fluoridation, they hired the brilliant ‘father of propaganda’ Edward L. Bernays. Joined later by other fluoride polluting industries (e.g. nuclear) and the multi-billion dollar sugar, toothpaste, confectionary and soft drink industries, they became strong financial supporters of dental associations that promoted fluoridation. One such support group, the Dental Health Education & Research Foundation (DHERF) was founded in Australia in 1962. Its Governors, Members and donors comprised key representatives from Coca-Cola, CSR, Kelloggs, Colgate-Palmolive, Wrigleys, Arnotts, Scanlens, Cadbury Schweppes, etc”.

Surprise! Surprise?

Sort of like the ‘milk does a body good’ campaign, when it actually doesn’t. Our bodies can’t process dairy! lol And now they’re not allowed to say that anymore. lol

Most of the items on the web that tell you the detail about how bad your shower water is, are there to sell you a filter. So I’m not going to promote anyone. You can google it yourself.

But I will say this: my daughter is pretty smart and she’s looking at Vitamin C filters. ‘Nough said?

GOTCHA CHEF MARIAN!

Moving on to the benefits of water……….

Well, according to WebMD,” water helps you stay slimmer because it reves up your metabolism and helps you feel full”. Isn’t that what I said earlier?  But get this: “And if you take ice cold water, it makes your body work to warm it up”. How cool is that! I had no idea!

Here’s what else they have to say:

“Water helps the blood transport oxygen and other essential nutrients to your cells.

If you’re getting enough water, your heart also doesn’t have to work as hard to pump blood throughout your body.85% of your brain tissue is water. If you’re dehydrated, both your body and your mind will be stressed.

If you’re feeling thirsty, you’re already a little dehydrated.

To keep stress levels down, keep a glass of water at your desk or carry a sports bottle and sip regularly.Drinking water helps prevent muscle cramping and lubricates joints in the body.

Drinking water hydrates skin cells and plumps them up, making your face look younger.

It also flushes out impurities and improves circulation and blood flow, leaving your face clean, clear and glowing”.

I’ve also heard Doctor Debbie say that all fluids except for water and coconut water actually dehydrate you. Good to keep that in mind too!

I find that when I understand the reasons for something, it’s easier for me to comply.

So, I hope I’ve made sense of the whole ‘water thing’ for you.

Happy Drinking…… um…. I mean Eating,

Chef Marian
