Food Rant from Chef Marian

questionWould like to give you a Food Rant from Chef Marian here and share it with my other Facebook pages and throughout my social media. If I wasn’t ranting, I would be complaining.

Sarcasm. It keeps this New Yorker from going to a way darker place. And it’s only slightly annoying (and to some people actually funny). lol

So here we go: I was listening to the doctor who wrote Wheat Belly today. He doesn’t want us eating wheat, or any grains at all like rye, barley, corn, etc. because it’s not the same plant our grandparents had. (When I eat organic corn, am I making a mistake)?  He showed their plant to be ‘amber waves of grain’ and ours to be smaller modified versions, to get more plants into a field. If I listen to what he says, in 5 days I will feel miraculously better (mind you, I don’t feel bad at all right now. I am actually well, with an abundance of energy). And of course, there’s the withdrawal … with joints hurting and all kinds of unexpected pain.

Sound good so far?  Wait. It gets better!

So let’s see: sugar, alcohol, pasta, bread are gone from my life by my own doing in baby steps that has led me to this moment, and now no wheat and grains?

And according to the good doctor wheat is worse than we can imagine. Sort of like MSG makes you hungry? He says so does wheat. He says it’s not your fault you are overeating. It’s wheat that’s the problem.

Wait a sec. Didn’t they have us stop eating white bread by telling us to convert to whole wheat, rye or sprouted wheat? And what did they say? It’s better for you. And now? Don’t eat bread at all? What about Ezikiel bread. Is that bread? Or just something else…?

Confusion. Unanswered questions or questions that lead to more questions. Can ya ‘feel’ me?

Can I exist on fruits and vegetables alone? Nope. I don’t think so. But wait! Good news is on the horizon.

Did you hear? Beyonce does that too (vegan part of the time) and people I know that are vegan actually say that if we all went 80% plant based, we could make a big shift in our world and actually make a change, one person at a time. Cowspiracy told us we can eat less meat, grow more produce and find ourselves feeding the village instead of one household.

Well I’m doing my part. And I’m not some kind of traitor because I don’t do it all the time. Cool beans.

I do make an occasional ground turkey and chicken combo burger or meatballs. But now… on what? Lettuce? I think not.

Time to switch from semolina or white to whole wheat pasta? No way! It’s not on his list. No pasta is what’s on his list.

On occasion, I will eat a veggie sandwich on whole grain bread… Oh, wait a minute, whole grain bread is grain. Ba-bucked either way! (If you get my drift).

So you see the dilemma? Are you having dilemma’s of your own you can share? I think if you and a few other people send me a couple of paragraphs we will extend this blog into next week adding The Food Rant from Chef Marian: Part II.

Otherwise, I am going to have to continue my life this way: 80% of the time vegan, 90% of the time alcohol free, 90% of the time sugar free, with an eye towards eating less and less wheat and grains. And when I feel like eating something not clean and green? I’ll do what I know to do: follow it with veggies, fruits or alkaline water. Disease cannot grow in an alkaline body, and that my friend, is my goal!

Food wise, I don’t think I’m ever going to deny myself totally and make myself feel deprived.

How about you? Would love a couple of paragraphs on this from you!

Mad thanks to those of you who share this blog with friends through social media.

By the way, in a day or so, you’ve got Part II of some great investigative research I’ve done and presented on stage at The Del Mar Fairgrounds this past Sunday, coming your way on ‘Food is Your Best Medicine’. Hang tight!

Happy Healthy Eating,
