Restaurant Review: Lobster West, Encinitas

Lobster West
Lobster West

There’s a Restaurant I’ve passed by over and over again and thought: “Geez. I ought to try that”. It’s called Lobster West, Encinitas on South Coast Hwy 101 in Encinitas. Just a very small place with an nice extended front and side porch seating. It’s either part of the lumberyard or right next to the lumberyard. You know where Soulscape is? Right next door.

So here’s what it’s all about:

Lobster from Maine. Can you say yum?

Here’s what they say about themselves: “We are proud to offer fresh, sustainable and delicious Maine lobster rolls (along with crab rolls, shrimp rolls, seafood chowders, locally-grown organic salads and more”.

Now they absolutely did not know I do restaurant reviews. And the girl at the register could not have been more helpful or friendlier. I actually did feel like a family member coming to her home and she wanted to make sure everything was just right for me.

What a breath of fresh air!

So they’ve got the customer service down to a science. What about their food? Here’s more of their story:

“We source all of our lobster directly from our friends who fish the icy cold waters of Maine and then we ship them overnight to Southern California, ensuring freshness in every bite!  Our sweet and delicious Maine lobster is 100% certified and sustainable, and is served up in our favorite form – the lobster roll”!

So you’ve got a Lobster Roll but that’s just the start. You can order a crab roll, a shrimp roll, even a Lobster Grilled Cheese Combo. And that’s Danish Havarti they’re using!

A Maine Feast for two includes it all. A ‘tasting’ is just what you need (if there is two of you) for less than $40.

They’re not open late, so target it for lunch or a late lunch. It’s exactly what you had hoped for. Just before I left, I got their card and mentioned that I would be doing a review. Shocking! But as you can clearly see here, they had nothing to worry about. What they say they do is what they do. Under promise. Over deliver. That about describes Lobster West!

Happy Eating,

Chef Marian
