New Year’s Resolutions

It’s never too early to start thinking about New Year’s Resolutions. And if we go research the web, we’ll probably find that most of those resolutions are connected to diet or good health. (ikr)?

I don’t know if you’re anything like me, but last xmas I put on a whole dress size. What does that mean guys? I gained ten pounds. And although I played many games myself throughout the year …

WHAT ARE THOSE GAMES CHEF MARIAN? Well, I’m glad you asked. Let’s see if you recognize any of these:

  1. I will only drink on weekends. We’re going to a big wine tasting event with great wine?
  2. No more than a glass or two of wine only. We’re going to a big wine tasting event with great wine?
  3. I will not eat anything white (potatoes, rice, bread, sugar, etc). Wait a sec, does that mean no sushi?
  4. I will watch my portions. Well, I do have my 3 bite rule for desserts…..
  5. I will exercise daily (or maybe not, with my busy schedule). lol
Any of this ringing a bell for ya? NO CHEF MARIAN. YOU’RE ALONE ON THIS ONE.

Well, to continue…. I have played all of these games with myself and more. Two weeks ago I met up with Dr. Debbie. She runs a chiropractic meetup and is a leader in homeopathic medicine and she said: “Why don’t you do a complete workup (blood & urine), and let’s see what’s eating you”. Well, she didn’t exactly say that, but you get the idea. I know I have high cholesterol, but what I really want to know is how much inflammation is in my body….. how may pre-cancer, pre-diabetes, pre-not doing well pointers we could pick up.

So off I went to the lab. Threw a couple of hundred bucks down I don’t have….. (no insurance, no benefits working for yourself), and days later I was back in Dr. Debbie’s office to review what the lab said.

Now, I must say I am extremely happy to be working with someone who knows what they are talking about. We looked at all the paperwork and at the end of the day agreed that I would……

Please eat nothing but cardboard for the next 21 days. WHOOT? Well, not exactly that bad. But when I went for brunch today, I could even taste the French Toast Creme Brulee, had to give away the potatoes on my sauceless eggs benedict, and oh wait. There’s more. No bread. No grains. TOTALLY GLUTEN FREE for ME!

So I basically ordered 2 eggs and ham. Did I mention it’s PROTEIN, VEGGIES and FRUIT FOR ME? And that doesn’t include Dried Fruit, Pineapple, Mango or any kind of melon or any sauces, cheese, dairy of any kind, wine (thought I’d throw that fact in there for good measure). Luckily my partner in crime at brunch had ordered some grilled veggies and a salad, so we shared and I at least felt fed.Another thing I ordered is Peppermint tea. That’s was another thing to stimulate my palate and it was pretty satisfying. Drinking two whole pots….. water consumption. It’s a good thing.

As a matter of fact, I spent the last 4 days at a marketing seminar…… Should I promote it and tell you about it, shouldn’t I???? Well, I got a ton of great information about it so …..

Nope. This is a food blog. Doesn’t belong here. NOW WAIT A SEC CHEF MARIAN. DIDN’T YOU DO A ‘LIVING YOUR BEST LIFE’ BLOG? Well….uh. …. yeah.Ok. ok. I’ll do a blog about all the conferences I’ve been to in the last 3 months and give you some helpful hints that aren’t proprietary about marketing and how to make money on the web…. in a blog before the years’ end.

Back to our regularly scheduled program….So, do I have your sympathy or what? Seriously folks…. It ain’t easy bein’ green at xmas time! Or is it? Nope. It’s aint’ easy. But I’ll tell you what. I’ll bite the bullet and do 21 days of Protein, Fruits and Veggies if and only if after that, I can start adding things back in…. DEAL?

Deal.So that’s my deal. Please let me know if I get grouchy or irritable, start trashing local places, start telling all the deep dark secrets about everyone I know…. lol.Did I say I might get out of control? Na. I’m good.

Actually, before the conference I cooked up a bunch of healthy food, which actually keep me on plan the entire time. I can do that. You can do that. I’ll tell you the details next time.I didn’t have to eat bad food (which is usually what you get at restaurants in that particular area), and I felt satisfied and happy the entire time.

YES> I missed my wine…. Waaaaaah!

Talk later,
Happy Eating,
Chef Marian
