Fresh is Best!

This article is about Fresh is Best, but let’s start at the beginning.

So I took a trip to The Fancy Food Show in San Francisco a couple of weeks ago….. and when you are coming from San Diego, if you want to do it in one day you can. Or you can stop and get closer to San Francisco, overnight in a hotel and have a short fresh trip into the City in the morning for your inbound trip.

Just a ‘heads up’ …. if you do the second, The Cupertino Inn is a great place to stop.

But what I really learned about on this trip, I learned or re-learned from my Santa Barbara stop. There’s a couple of places in SB and surrounding cities called The Natural Cafe. Crazy Good food.

Now, how could a salad be good? Aren’t salads just plain and something you eat as part of a meal, without any big cravings for it? Or something you force yourself to make?

That’s why I’m doing this Fresh is Best article. Because at The Natural Cafe, salads are so good. And I realized it’s about ‘fresh’. Romaine lettuce that is absolutely crisp and cold without any brown spots is a great start. Thinly sliced red onions. A second bonus. Little shreds of jicama. Another bonus. The same for carrots. And then some Tahini Dressing. OMG. So good.

We have some restaurants in around San Diego that serve people that eat only Vegan. But Native Foods for example has produce in their meals that is not organic. How do we pride ourselves on healthy food and then not serve organic? Beats me!

I don’t crave their food. And I think that’s really the key to eating healthy.

Now if we could get an ‘Evolution’ in North County…. I would eat there all the time. I do understand that there’s a few new healthy restaurants coming in, and I’m really excited about that. Any restaurants that make it easy to eat healthy, are just great in my world!

Lately I have been doing bits of proteins and carbs topping a great salad for lunch only and I have been really satisfied. I don’t feel like I am missing anything.

So I am going to call the headquarters of The Natural Cafe this week and see if we can get a location going in Del Mar or Encinitas, down here. What a joy that would be!

And in the meantime, I will just keep it fresh!

Happy Healthy Eating,
