7 things a Nutritionist would never eat ~ from Shape Magazine ~ brought to you by Chef Marian

Shape Magazine is a very cool place to get interesting, informative articles.

I have been concentrating on taking sugar and things that turn to sugar like pasta and bread, out of my diet. The only, I mean only way I have been able to make this shift is to truly understand that sugar = inflamation. Inflamation causes disease like cancer, heart disease, etc. It’s all about keeping your body Alkaline, not acidic. And the only things that do that are fruits and vegetables (walnuts, almonds, water, coconut water…. but just keep it simple in your mind with fruits and vegetables).

So, when I read an article in Shape Magazine that gave continuous ‘reasoning’ as to why nutritionists would not eat 7 particular foods, and their answer was either because it’s altered, it will spike your glycemic index (like sugar) or will create inflammation I was like ~ YES! I have it right!

Always good when an outside source confirms what you know to be true.

Like to take a trip with me? A trip to a healthier you? Doesn’t cost more…. I don’t get anything from it, except the satisfaction of knowing your life changed because of me!

Then join me on my mostly Alkaline eating plan, where we create new recipes that are protein, but not necessarily with beef, pork, chicken or fish. Studies now show that if we eat 5% animal protein instead of our usual 20% or more, we will bring ourselves back into health and prevent an old age filled with disease and pain. Sounds like a good game plan? Then join me!

I started today by creating a beautiful Quinoa (pronounced Keen-nwah)…. by cooking it in mushroom broth. I took a separate pan to caramelize mushrooms and onions, later adding bits of sweet potato, cilantro, green onions and my favorite Garlic SeaSalt and Garlic Pepper.

When the mixture was yummy and brown and the quinoa absorbed all the broth, I combined them in the pan I used to brown everything.

Can you imagine eating something warm and yummy….. that is a protein, and as you are eating you hit a piece of cilantro! Then some caramelized onions and mushrooms. Next bite? Might be sweet potato?

It’s an eaters’ dream come true. Lot’s of flavor and actually good for you!

This is one of many to follow as I continue my quest for good health.

Feel free to email me with suggestions.

Having traveled the world and eaten almost everywhere…. I have a tendency to come up with things that I just throw together, based on my palate and experience in the world of flavor. I don’t think I create recipes. I think they flow thru me…. much like music, when we’re at a piano singing. Ever have that experience? Write and tell me about it and maybe I will feature you in my next blog!

Happy Eating,

Chef Marian
